Moclín has always been a village at the forefront of Spanish history. Caves have been discovered here with evidence of life dating back 60,000 years. The 13th Century Moorish Castle was under almost constant siege for 200 years, known by the Nasrids as the “shield of Granada” and marked the border between moorish Granada and the Christian region of Jaen.
It finally fell in 1486 shortly after Loja and then became the base from where Los Reyes Catolicos, Isabel y Fernando stayed before the final assault on Granada. The village inspired Granada’s most famous poet and playwright, Federico Garcia Lorca, to write ‘Yerma’.
Ian and Andrew live in the Village and give private guided tours of Moclín Castle with varied routes to take in trenches from the Spanish Civil War or neolithic cave drawings, the tour is approximately 2.5hrs and finishes with a few drinks and Tapas is the town square !
